To address the Net-Zero target, researchers were invested in ESDs which created a need of more work on basic naval architecture. Hence, an independent research programme was initiated by Amitavo C Wye following observations of efficiency challenges. The fundamental concept of a hybrid hull combining monohull and catamaran characteristics is first conceptualised. Research begins with a comprehensive review of existing hull forms and their limitations.
Extensive preliminary design work undertaken to define the Y-Hull® geometry. Multiple hull form variants explored and evaluated analytically. The distinctive Y-shaped cross-section featuring twin forward demi-hulls converging to a single stern hull is finalised as the most promising configuration, with the potential for natural air lubrication identified as a key performance advantage.
Hydrodynamic analysis of the Y-hull® was done using software packages. Wave resistance prediction using Michell integral and Savitsky methods applied to the novel geometry
Full naval architecture design package was prepared suitable for vessel construction. Development of lines plans, general arrangements, structural design, and construction drawings for the first Y-hull® passenger vessel.
MV Jamuna the world's first Y-Hull® commercial passenger vessel is built and deployed on an operational inland waterway route. Sea trials and performance monitoring commence, providing the first real-world validation of the CFD predictions. Operational fuel consumption data collected and compared against the conventional monohull MV Padma operating on the same route.

A second Y-Hull® vessel is designed and built, further validating the design across different vessel configurations. Commercial interest from regional shipowners grows significantly.

Amitavo C Wye receives the Asia Iconic Award 2023 from the Global Human Rights Council for Peace and Sustainable Development, USA. Honorary PhD awarded by The Thames International University, France for outstanding impact in sustainability. WCRNT World's Best Leader Award 2023 received at Westminster Palace, House of Lords, United Kingdom. Y-Hull® featured in CEO Insights India and The Financial Express Bangladesh.
Y-Hull® Partnership Agreement established with EcoNavis Solutions Ltd., a University of Strathclyde maritime cleantech spinout for UK and European commercialisation. Amitavo C Wye joins EcoNavis Team as COO.
After successful partnership with EcoNavis Solutions Ltd., detailed CFD Simulation with worldwide licensing programme formally launched for international shipowners and shipyards. The CFD simulations are done at identical displacement (17.302 tonnes) and length (13.5m) across Froude numbers 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. Results demonstrate Y-Hull® resistance advantage of 19.45% to 27% versus monohull and 1.75% to 8.20% versus catamaran which proves the real-world operational data.
